Barksdale police report the DuPont plant has greatly increased its guard force in the past week with nearly a hundred additional guards now employed. Company plans to enlarge plant barracks to accommodate the new personnel.

Mrs. Hiram Hansen had an appendectomy at St. Joseph hospital in Ashland last Saturday morning. Hospital reports indicate her condition is as well as could be expected and friends anticipate her speedy recovery.

Boy Dan Smith Hurt After Horse Kick at Barn

Dan Smith son of Mr and Mrs J L Smith suffered a fractured jaw and loss of teeth when kicked by his horse last Thursday afternoon while working with the animal in the barn. The injury was described as very painful.

Local boxing club names new referees and state inspector

Jack Walsh of this city is likely to referee upcoming F. T. Beers Club matches after being appointed official referee by the Wisconsin Boxing Commission. George Buchanan of Ashland is named state inspector representing the commission. Both are familiar with state boxing rules.

A Wisconsin legislature memorial honors William O Neil of Washburn born September 20 1848 who died March 8 1917 at Cass Lake Minn He served in Civil and Spanish American Wars was a woodsman Republican legislator and tax reform advocate His wife preceded him in death and he is buried beside her in Sharon Wisconsin The resolution was adopted by unanimous vote and sent to the deceased’s family.

Washburn Band Benefit Events Planned

The Commercial Club music committee will host two fundraisers in Washburn to support summer band concerts. A March 28 moving picture show at Temple theatre, with Tickets $1, and an April 9 Easter ball at the Opera house, with ladies admitted free with escorts. Funeral for Mrs Ida Aune Held at Norwegian Church

Mrs Ida Aune died last Wednesday due to tuberculosis of the bone after a long illness. Funeral services were conducted by Rev Chr Christiansen at the Norwegian Lutheran church last Saturday afternoon with interment in Woodland cemetery. The event drew a large crowd in the city as mourners said farewell. Her son Arthur and his Cedar Rapids, Iowa wife arrived about an hour before her death to attend.

Ashland Case of Police Chief Kerr Postponed

Attorney Lamoreaux could not attend in the case against Chief A M Kerr charged with soliciting and taking money for protection against blind pig raids. The hearing was continued to tomorrow at ten. The state may dismiss as witnesses could not be located.

Grand jury summoned witnesses for Bayfield liquor cases

U S Marshal Pugh summoned George A Calder and A M Kerr as witnesses to appear before the grand jury at Superior on March 31 to testify in liquor cases against Gust Hendrickson and Matt Koskie. The two men are sought by Bayfield County authorities in other cases.

The Retail Merchants Credit and Commercial Association met at the Lamoreaux Hotel with 21 members present due to a severe storm. A six course dinner at 7:30 preceded toasts led by E. Bergmann, who was honored with a card set reading Our President. A general business discussion on credits followed until 11:30.
