The Oswegos world champions defeated Washburn City Team at the Opera House last Saturday. Washburn battled hard in the first half, but Oswego pulled away in the second, showcasing easy baskets and earning a comfortable win amid a large crowd.
Six men were killed in an explosion at the E I DuPont Powder Company drying house in Haskell New Jersey last Saturday. Three others were saved and may not recover. The Sprague Lumber Company camps at Sioux River finished winter cut, crews returned, camp outfit reached the city, logs hauled by rail into Sprague mill pond amid a long haul and rough terrain. Avery Smith called to Worcester Massachusetts for serious illness of his mother.
Mike Yokel of Salt Lake City the world champion middleweight will face Walter Willoughby of Mellen the former champion. The Royal theatre in Ashland hosts the March 13 showdown praised as a major Wisconsin event outside Milwaukee or Hudson. Willoughby observed Yokel in Duluth while Ketoman fought, as Yokel and Emil Klank train hard to peak.
Promoters led by T N Okerstrom of Port Wing plan an electric line from Chequamegon Bay to Superior with potential county or town guarantees for a 350000 dollar project. Bayfield meeting aims to organize support, noting rail connections lapsed years ago and the route would open up a rich northern region.
The White Rose Creamery produced its first butter batch yesterday and will churn daily. Three cream routes will collect from surrounding farms twice a week, with pasteurized butter from the Wizard Agitator and a commitment to pay for cream on the first trip after gathering.

A two team stock selling drive was launched with a dinner prize for the higher sorter.
Farmers from the district will attend an Agricultural school run by the University of Wisconsin Extension Division at Ashland Junction starting March 16. Supt. E J Delwiche leads with assistants F L Musbach J G Wilward and F H Scribner. Dairying soil testing fruit farming and soil management are among topics. Sessions run daily through March 20 in a new building on the Experimental Farm erected by Bayfield and Ashland counties.

New millinery trends from major fashion centers will be showcased at the Downs store when it opens soon. Early previews have drawn praise as some say the stock is the best seen. An admission noted entertainment by the Christian Endeavor society at the Congregational church parlors drew a large crowd last night.
An organized movement in Wisconsin seeks grower cooperation to plant only clean potato seed. The goal is to prevent diseases like black wart and powdery scab and keep seed stock within the state. Certificates of inspection have been issued by the University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture, with guidance on field selection and rogueing. E I DuPont to remodel the Sheridan Block turning it into gymnasium and club rooms with a Haskell club space on the second floor. The Nelson building owned by the Odd Fellows will gain lodge rooms upstairs and a banquet hall downstairs. Improvements expected to start during the coming summer.
Miss Johanna Nelson invites Washburn and surrounding residents to a spring millinery opening on March 25 in the Reuter building opposite Tempe Theatre. A display features the newest models and the same milliner as before, encouraging continued patronage.
A group of local fans plan to attend the Ashland wrestling event Saturday evening featuring the middleweight championship of the world.
A joint service of the Congregational Methodist and Norwegian Lutheran churches at the Nor. Luth. church drew between 400 and 500 people last Sunday evening. Organized by the local W. C. T. U. it was a temperance program with music readings and recitations. The church was packed and many were turned away. It was described as one of the city's largest union meetings.
The Rebeccas of Bayfield Lodge visited Forest Lodge No 118 on Friday evening with supper served. Four new members were initiated and four more admitted after votes. Visiting members from Iowa and Minnesota attended. Bayfield delegates included Albert Welsch Silas Korsley Lee Benton Rudolph Nelson Thomas Kent Ada Hommy Alvin Nelson Suskin Jeferus O C Anderson and A Brockwood. Washburn projects a strong team and a fine lodge hall once completed.
Nels Lee announces the delinquent tax roll will be turned over after Saturday, urging residents to settle accounts this week to avoid further action.
A movement to organize a base ball league for northern Wisconsin and northern Michigan gains momentum led by Ironwood organizers. Towns listed include Ashland Washburn Park Falls Bessemer Hurley Ironwood and Mellen with many towns showing support and a meeting anticipated to draft plans.
Layrette Reuter, 25, son of Mr and Mrs L Reuter, died last Friday after seven weeks on artificial respiration following paralysis of the nervous system last December. Relatives and friends kept him alive by chest pumping around the clock. he remained conscious earlier but weakened as the weeks passed. Funeral Monday at the Congregational church with Rev O W Smith officiating, interment Woodland Cemetery. He was a Washburn High School graduate, formerly employed in Madison, and returned home due to illness. Out of town relatives attended from Madison Virginia and Fon du Lac.
