Death by laudanum ends an Eau Claire resident life

Andrew Everson a Woods cook died after drinking laudanum last Friday night in a room above John Allan saloon. He was found in a stupor Saturday and died at Washburn Hospital the same day. Everson leaves a wife and daughter and carried $3,000 life insurance as a Modern Woodmen member. Remains shipped to Cedar Falls for burial.

Telegraph proves speed in last Saturday incident

Miss Gertrude Everson visited the Omaha depot to send word of her father's death to Mrs. Vance in Hayward. Telegraph operator Lang quickly contacted Hayward and notified the relative who was rushing to catch the northbound train. The timing hinged on the approaching train and the eight minute delay.

Fall at Northern Fuel Dock Injures John Burke

John Burke was severely injured after falling twenty four feet from a dock chute at the Northern Fuel Company. He sustained internal injuries and several broken ribs and is under care of Drs Hicks and Lampson. his family includes a wife and several children.

Bayfield County to skip Australian ballots this spring

Australian ballots will not be used in Bayfield County elections this spring. The old-fashioned ballot will decide town affairs and no local or Supreme Court judges are on the ballot, removing the usual red-tape of the Australian system. This may be the first spring election in the county since the system began with no officials to vote for.

He will continue contracting work and has rented his Washburn residence to Dr A G Hebberd who will move in next week. Niagara lecture charms audience at Congregational church

Rev C H McIntosh presented an illustrated lecture titled Niagara with over fifty stereopticon views. The talk, part of a city series, drew strong attendance and showcased detailed Niagara Falls and rapids scenes created for the lecture. He will lecture in Iron River Friday and return next Monday for a second talk titled Following the Flag.
