Alderman Nelson Attacks Mayor Over Street Vacancies

In a fiery city council meeting Alderman Nelson of the Fourth ward attacked the Mayor accusing him of insinuations about Nelson having “something up his sleeve” in supporting Colonel Reichart’s plan to vacate streets and alleys east of the Omaha tracks for potential summer homes. The exchange followed a Commercial Club resolution urging reconsideration of this action and involved remarks by Alderman Bryan and others about council influence and public opinion.

Bayfield County Fair Elects New Officers

A meeting at Iron River elected officers for 1921 Bayfield County Fair. President Max Helmer, Vice President Jas Doherty, Treasurer Byron Ripley, Secretary Ed F Daniels were chosen. They pledge the biggest fair in Bayfield County history.

Lady Macabees elect officers at Walker School meeting

At a Feb 10 meeting of the Lady Maccabees officers were elected for the year. Commander Anna Johnson and others including Loretta Schultheis Minnie Downs Clara Axelberg Anna Paulson Martha Bowers Elizabeth Lamere Meta Johnson Ingar Olson. Walker School PTA meets Friday March 4 at 3 PM.

Audit Finds Water Company Overpaid by City Records

Ragland and Pierce examined city school and water company books and reported a mis payout of 1875.28 from a 1920 judgment, with $50 more minor overpayments to be returned. School books had minor errors quickly corrected, and the council ordered full reports published and filed alongside routine audit payments.

Salary boost urged for Wisconsin state schools chief

Madison February 28. C P Cary the incumbent state superintendent spoke before the joint finance committee proposing raising the salary from 5000 to 12000 dollars annually. Cary noted educators urged at least 10000 and possibly 12000 while the committee took the matter under advisement.

Nash Catholics Plan Brick Church Erection

Plans for a new Catholic church in Nash are under way with permission from Bishop Koudelka. Fr. Bede of Ashland will oversee, Fr. Charron in charge, and brick donated by Jos. Brenner Co. The 24 by 70 foot structure will be near the old Marquette site and include a statue of St. Margaret Mary and a Columbus bust funded by Nash donors. Work to start after frost lifts in spring.

Obituary of Washburn Resident Gunder Olson

Mr. Gunder Olson aged 80 a Washburn resident for 35 years died Tuesday at Jack Jacksons home after feeble health. Funeral held Wednesday at the Norwegian Lutheran church conducted by Rev Christiansen. Interment Woodland cemetery. Born in Norway he came to the United States long ago and was a respected citizen with many friends.

Yderstad elected Bayfield County Clerk on Tuesday

The Bayfield County Board chose Jacob Yderstad to fill the unexpired term as County Clerk ending January 1923. He won on the first ballot with 19 votes over 10 for R W Smith and minor totals for others, bringing prior service and local experience to the office.

Last Day of Fishing Season in Wisconsin

Washburn fishermen ended ice catching on February 28 and must wait until June 1 for game fish. Open seasons for bass vary with proposals to start earlier. brook trout season runs May 1 to August 31.
