Beavers Convene in Grand Colony Session at Court Room

The Grand Colony of Beavers held its first session in the Court Room with Grand Commander A. D. Campbell presiding and S. A. Oscar delivering a welcome. The gathering discussed bylaws, risks, mileage and per diem for delegates, and heard reports from a respected resolutions committee. Antigo Chosen as 1910 Convention Meeting Site

At the court house Antigo secured selection as the 1910 convention city after a rival contest with Racine. Mrs. H C Lawton of Racine led opposition but Antigo’s gracious relinquishment last year helped. Total votes 192. Antigo 117 and Racine 75.

Memorial Service for S. H. and E. F. of A. members

Members of the S H and E F of A held a Sunday memorial at the city cemetery. Twenty one members since the lodge's founding have died, with most graves decorated, a June annual ceremony observed by the order and largely joined by the Ladies lodge.

Maiden voyage steamer Donaldson brings 6500 tons coal

The Donaldson arrived yesterday morning with 6500 tons of soft coal for Northwestern Fuel Company. She will stay until Friday discharging cargo and Beaver delegates and others are invited to inspect the new, modern steamer on its maiden lake trip.

S. E. Swanson underwent an operation at St. Joseph hospital in Ashland Sunday. George Scanlon returned yesterday from a three to four week stay in the west with reports of conditions there. Frank Beers came back Monday from the East with his family, and they will live at the Layton residence on Fourth street.

Several Candidates Seek County Sheriff and Treasurer Posts

Public interest grows as multiple contenders consider sheriff. Thomas Allen of Bayfield has announced, with others including Martin Rogan Cable Wm Little Iron River Andrew Johnson H J Finstad James Albertson and Ben Runkle eyeing the race.
