Bayfield County Surveys Crops and Livestock Needs

The County Defense Council, through County Clerk Nels M. Oscar, has sent 1600 survey cards to Bayfield County farmers. The cards ask for 1916 and 1917 crop acres, livestock to buy or sell, seed needs, and summer farm help. The goal is to project production, move livestock, and create an information bureau for farmers. Farmers should respond promptly.

Houses Rise At DuPont Park Addition

The Goodnough Loveland company has begun building several three room residences in DuPont Park Addition. Manager Goodnough states at least twenty houses of this design will be erected during the summer, with more depending on demand. Two houses are already under construction and more will follow shortly.

Drive Starts on Slackers at Barksdale Plant

First arrests for failure to register occurred at Du Pont plant in Barksdale yesterday morning as three Greeks were taken into custody. Ground Pulp Cargo Arrives at City Dock on Easton Steamer

The Easton, a Canadian steamer, arrived Friday with 10 000 bales of ground pulp wood shipped by Reid Brothers of Detroit. The pulp will be sent to paper mills across Wisconsin, creating many local jobs as crews work day and night unloading at the Commercial Dock.

Red Cross Seeks 2000 Members In Washburn Chapter

Bayfield County road project nears completion near Pike's Quarry

Do ing Much Work Bayfield County crews rebuild the Washburn Bayfield road near Pike's Quarry aiming for a premier county highway. Last summer the Onion River to Pikes quarry section was straightened and finished in excellent condition with guard rails planned on high fills. The current extension tears up about two miles and will reach Salmo station, promising a fine link between the two cities.

Ashland High School Destroyed in Sudden Fire

The Ashland High School, a $250000 stone and brick building praised as a top local facility, burned last night around 11 with no clear origin. The city plans immediate rebuild as hundreds watched. Bayfield County forms National Guard company. 27 Iron River and 3 Drummond members join locally.

Bayfield will have fine paving on main streets with seven blocks planned this season. Brick will be used on a sand cushion without a concrete base, and a white way lighting system is under consideration. The improvements aim to make Bayfield a premier Northwest summer resort.

Miss Clara Marsh and Mr. Arnold L. Thielke were married at 11 a.m. Monday in the St Louis Parsonage with Rev. Fr. Charron officiating. Miss Alice O Sullivan served as maid of honor, and Warren Mooney acted as best man. The couple will honeymoon to Wausau, Sheboygan, and Milwaukee before settling in their city home.
