Commencement Night Planned for Washburn High School
Last day of school arrangements finalized for the Washburn high school commencement on Friday evening. Professor H W Rood of Madison to deliver the address. Eleven graduates assigned their places on the program including invocations, choruses, solos, salutatory by Oscar B. Runkle, valedictory by James J. Murphy, and diploma presentation by TL N Clausen.

Waukesha Judge Sentences Cowie for Forged Note
In Waukesha circuit court Judge Dick sentenced Fred G Cowie to two years in state prison for uttering a forged nine thousand eight hundred fifty dollar note. The note allegedly carried Dr. Rice of Waukesha as signer. Cowie, son-in-law to Rice, was tied to Sabin era railroad dealings and had previously been arrested here before release.

Fire destroys Akeley and Sprague saw mill and docks
A devastating blaze last Saturday night wiped out the Akeley and Sprague saw mill in Washburn, burning the mill, docks and vast lumber piles. Losses: about 50,000 for the mill and docks plus 40,000 for Edward Hines Timber, with 125 workers affected and rebuilding uncertain.

Feast of Men's Meetings Unites Congregational and Methodist Churches
Beginning next Saturday evening through Sunday both churches join with Milwaukee and Ashland Y M C A workers for a series of men’s meetings. A preparatory service is set for Saturday 7:30 pm at the Methodist church followed by worship services at both churches, a 3 pm men’s rally at the Methodist church, a 7 pm union young people rally at the Congregational church and a 7:45 pm union service there.
