State Treasurer Andrew H. Dahl and officials conducted a land sale in Bayfield county with over 1000 acres auctioned for 2522 dollars. O A Lamoreaux led purchases by price while Clarence Dennis and George Brossard bought more than 600 acres for themselves. Other bidders included P A Olson Sam Amundson 7 Mackwiller H M Jule and O A Lamoreaux.

Injured Mine Worker Melius Christianson in Hibbing Rescue
Melius Christianson of this city is in Hibbing Hospital with a crushed leg after an accident four miles from Chisholm Minnesota. He was operating an engine when his foot was caught between the engine and tender as the train bumped the bumper. His father Fred Christiansen and sister Miss Anna Christianson were briefed. the father returned home Saturday and reports he is progressing. Amputation is not certain.

City School Census Shows Slight Decrease in Children
The city reports 1465 school age children, a drop from August 1909 figures. Last year the count ranged around 1645 or 180 higher, indicating a modest decline in the current census.

Orpheum Theatre Leased to Thomas Mead for New Management
Otto Olson and Arthur Aune, owners of the Orpheum Theatre, have closed a lease with Thomas Mead. The change takes effect this week with the theatre reopening next Monday under Mead. Mead plans changes and may later buy out Olson and Anne interests. he and Mrs. Mead arrived from Buffalo, New York, recently and have been active in organizing local lodges.

Miss Mattie Rowley of Bayfield was killed near Bayfield Sunday night when a hand gun discharged while she and friends were target shooting by a bonfire. The coroner's inquest returned an accident verdict and urged tighter firearm sales to minors.

Tragic Infant Death in West Third Street Home
The three months old child of Mr and Mrs Dousette on West Third Street suffocated Monday forenoon when it fell forward in a baby carriage and the throat became pressed by the safety strap. The mother was nearby helping with household duties. The community extends sympathy to the grieving family.
