Canadian Soldier Gusland Returns With Full Battle Gear
Martin Gusland of the 8th Battalion Canadian Infantry, wounded in France and hospital in England at armistice time, visited the city yesterday. He remains a member of the Canadian army and will return to Canada to be discharged after a brief visit with his brother. He has over a year of active service and is now fully recovered.

Grain show a great success at Ashland seed exhibit
At the Madison county agent conference in December, Delwiche and agents from Ashland Bayfield and Douglas proposed a grain show in Ashland on January 18. Over 200 peck samples of wheat oats barley rye peas beans corn and clover were entered, judged as top quality surpassing the state fair. Farmers met to discuss standardizing seed grain varieties to boost regional reputation.

Funeral Held Here for Lawrence A Holmes
The funeral of Lawrence Adelbert Holmes 37 who died in Minong influenza and pneumonia was held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. from the Holmes residence with the Masonic Lodge in charge. pall bearers were members of Itasca Lodge. Holmes, a Washburn native, lived in Itasca and Minong before returning here. He was a railroad worker then a merchant and hotel operator. His wife is ill and could not attend.

The Alumni basketball team of this city lost to the Union Club of Ashland 14 to 18 at the Opera House last Friday. Welker starred for Ashland as the teams clashed, with Ashland’s seasoned lineup prevailing over Washburn’s frequently changing roster. A large crowd attended, and a postgame dance followed the contest.
