County Board Defers Bond and Road Expansion Proposals

Double Wedding Anniversary Celebrated in Washburn Home

A joint anniversary party was held Thursday evening January 15 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Fraser. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Monroe and Mr. and Mrs. Fraser celebrated their wedding anniversaries with many friends in attendance and a luncheon served. The event marked a notable gathering of Washburn’s respected citizens with hopes for many more happy returns.

Alice Adeline Holte aged 14 years and 3 months died January 19 after a long illness with pulmonary trouble. Funeral from the Norwegian Lutheran church Friday afternoon at 2:60 o'clock. Interment in Woodland cemetery.

Beaver Assn Takes Over Bayfield County Bonds at Par

The Beaver Fraternal Association of Madison elected to take over Bayfield County bonds totaling 43,000 at par. The board plans to sell the issue to the organization and use the proceeds to fund county highway construction along Route No 10 as part of state and federal trunk line projects.

Twin City Auto Show Brings Florida Show to Minnesota

Ten acres of Florida sunshine join Minnesota winter as the Twin City Automobile Exposition opens at the Overland Building Midway January 31 February 7. Five shows car passenger and commercial vehicles tractors and industrial displays fill five floors under one roof with music lights and dancing to welcome visitors from across the region. Hotels will be crowded and the Northwest is invited to Come On In for eight days of spectacle.

Sudden Death Ends War Vet Chester Kinney’s Life

Chester Kinney age 27 son of Mr and Mrs James Kinney of this city died after an oil field accident near Burkburnett Texas He enlisted in the army to serve during the war and returned home to a peaceful career cut short by a crow bar mishap while operating a rotary drill Kinney died on the operating table in Wichita Falls after being rushed there for treatment His funeral was held at the Kinney residence and he is buried in Woodland Cemetery in Washburn.

Organize an Association Forms Washburn Cemetery Group

A Washburn Cemetery Association meeting at the Commercial Club organized the group. L. N. Clausen was temporary chairman Rev. G. H. Waters the temporary secretary. Directors elected: Mrs. A. Club Banquet Brings County Board and Members Together

Commercial Club hosts a Monday evening banquet at the YMCA for County Board members and city colleagues. Seventy attendees enjoyed a three course chicken dinner served by Wisconsin Cafe, followed by a motion picture show and bowling.
