Antilicense forces plan a vigorous campaign before the April election to decide if Washburn will remain wet. Noted speakers will visit during winter and spring to persuade voters on liquor licenses as past campaigns showed close results.
Eben Olson of Port Wing holds the contract to build the approaches to the Long Bridge at the head of the bay. He will keep a crew all winter, with the wintry task including roadway leveling and two-bridge approaches. The contract totals 7000 dollars. The Henepin Bridge Co of Minneapolis will install the steel bridges, with a 125 foot span bridge due to start next week and be ready by May 1. Olson cannot finish his portion until after frost leaves in spring, and the complete road will cost over 15000 dollars, above the engineers estimate for the Wisconsin Highway Commission.
The Washburn Times presents a four page supplement with Bayfield County Board proceedings in full for the meeting. Previous years spread the reading over weeks, but this year the entire record is printed at once for future reference.
Mr and Mrs Aunt Peterson of West Bayfield street marked their silver wedding with a Monday eve at home. A large crowd attended and gifts poured in. The Petersons have long resided here and are highly regarded. Attorney John Walsh is conducting business in New York and Washington this week.
All arrangements are complete for a Pioneer Association banquet and dance Tuesday evening at Hotel Washburn. About 100 members, the so called old people, will attend with a seven o clock banquet followed by toasts songs and music. After nine the event moves to the Opera House for an old time dance exclusive to ticket holders. Committees met to finalize plans and ample turkey and good fare will be served.
Rev W J Corr of Appelton will lecture at the Brick Building this evening. He is described as a strong speaker and the remarks are billed as worthwhile. No Congregational church services next Sunday as previously announced. The saying warns that life longevity and happiness depend on both intake and speech.
A. J. Fraser, owner of a farm northwest of the city, produced a sample of ripe strawberries in winter. The overbearing variety reached nearly an inch in size but was pale due to lack of sun. Fraser plans to show more fruit soon and notes a house-grown plant bore blossoms after being transplanted.
Washburn city council passes a strong resolution urging the state Tax Commission to relieve William Landrraint from his duties as Bayfield county income assessor and all other official duties in the district. The council cites arrogance and overbearing conduct and notes plans to dissolve the Washburn Ice Company amid potential no ice for sale next year.

Madison January 7 Doctors who agree not to perform tests under the eugenics marriage law near forming a conspiracy Attorney General Walter C Owen indicated today that he was alerted to signed agreements by physicians in villages and cities not to conduct the tests The signing and refusals to examine were cited as possible conspiracy indicators to be investigated.
The Pastime Bowling alley in the Meehan block across from the Bayfield County Bank will open for business on Saturday. The up to date facility aims to attract bowling enthusiasts and a push to form several teams suggests competitive matches planned for the winter months.
A two reel society picture titled The Spender screens tonight with light comedy. Local patrons are invited to attend the showing and enjoy the witty domestic situations the film portrays.
A Saturday program presents a two reel feature The End of the Road alongside a two reel comedy The Policeman. The program runs in the afternoon and evening, with 4000 feet of film shown.

Beaver lodge to install officers Monday evening at the Odd Fellows hall with ceremonies shortly after eight o'clock followed by a large banquet for members and families. The lodge is among the citys largest and the annual installation is a big occasion.
Washburn High School basketball returns to the Opera House this Saturday to face Bayfield. After a 26 to 6 triumph over Park Falls last weekend the locals aim to repeat the win in front of a large crowd eager for basketball.
G A Gottschalk of the Extension Division will be in the city tonight and tomorrow at the George F. Morgan office to provide information on University of Wisconsin correspondent courses. He previously organized classes in retail selling and gasoline engines, which will begin soon.
