Lyceum Course to Bring Last Three Numbers to City

The Men's Club of the Congregational church met at M. C. Lincoln's home to decide on the six part lyceum course. influenza ban halted the first three talks, but the club voted to bring the final three numbers to the city and will announce dates via the University of Wisconsin Extension Division.

Schools Open Again Monday After Influenza Pause

City public schools reopened Monday after an influenza shutdown since October. Visiting Nurse Bertha Olson examined pupils. ill children were sent home and require a health certificate to return. The Health Board mandates certificates for any absence. A room by room influenza survey is under way to gauge past cases while courses are adjusted to recover lost time.

Carl Freidman of Freidman and Company Duluth takes over Jacobson and Son stock for a monster sale opening to the public next Friday morning. A large force of clerks has marked goods and prepared the event, claimed to be the biggest sale in the city’s history.

New Y M C A to Open Soon in City

The Y M C A building erected by the DuPont company is expected to be dedicated around January 10. The facility will be turned over to the city for plant workers and residents, with J C Manville as secretary in charge. dedication will be public and date to be announced next week.

Beaver Colony at Mason Wisconsin Becomes Beaten Trail

Beaver colony in Bibon swamp between Mason and Drummond is described as the largest in northern Wisconsin with hundreds of beaver, at least 500, and possibly more. Wardens report poaching, dam construction, and winter road flooding. law proposed to license fur dealers and prohibit beaver hides unless legally captured under state supervision.

Washburn Hippodrome to Open on Lake Superior Ice

The Washburn hippodrome will open on the ice at the end of Washington Ave with a two block pier into Lake Superior. Daily skating three hours in three periods plus hockey, racing, and skating exhibitions will accompany warm end-ice facilities and ample lights. Tri County Grain Show Set at Ashland Junction

E J Delwiche leads Bayfield Ashland and Douglas County farmers in a grain show at Ashland Junction on January 18 starting 10 AM. Bayfield growers urged to exhibit, with 75 peck entries already, plans to maximize displays with standardized grain sacks and mail order sacks via V E Brubaker Washburn.

Methodist Church Sunday School and Centenary Meetings

The Methodist Episcopal Church invites all pupils and teachers to Sunday School at 9:45 and public worship at 10:45 to hear about the Centenary Movement. Abdy family members tied to the colors will have stars added to the flag. Baptisms are offered during the service. Evening parish meetings begin 7:30 each night except next Saturday, with many church members participating.

Hearing Postponed over City Tax Roll Injunction

The injunction case seeking to force City Clerk L N Clausen to place two Washburn Water Works judgments on the city tax roll was adjourned to Saturday. The tax roll remains with the City Clerk and will stay there until the hearing before Judge Risjord in Ashland. Taxpayers anxious to pay their taxes are frustrated by the delay.
