Bayfield County reports 2648 dollars paid in bounties over the past year with the state covering half and the county the other half. Wolf hunters led to many wolves and wild cats slain, with current bounties at 20 dollars for grown wolves and 6 dollars for wild cats. Ashland County recently voted to double its bounty, contingent on Bayfield and Sawyer counties matching. The county board may act at the spring meeting to decide on increases.

Burns Store Building Damaged by Morning Fire
The William Burns store building sustained serious damage from a fire started by a lamp explosion. The blaze began about 7 20 a m near an elevator shaft and spread through the woodwork before fire units extinguished it near ten o clock. Mr Burns lighted the lamp for warming peanuts and attempted to fight the flames as the fire department responded.
