A Washburn booster delegation toured Duluth and Superior promising local promotion. Led by Frank Downs and John Sundell, the group distributed ribbons and leaflets, visited auto show displays, and attended a stag party at the Lamoreaux home. The trip included free auto transport and broad civic outreach.
Chief A M Kerr reports nine blind pig convictions in Washburn with fines of fifty dollars or more. Several others are serving sentences or awaiting trial for illegal liquor sales and related offenses, including A M Smith and wife for keeping a house of ill fame. Additional arrests are slated for the 23rd of the month.
Garfield school hosted a lengthy program attended by many parents and old soldiers. Teachers and students presented addresses and songs, followed by cocoa and cake. Rev H L Goodrich spoke on Lincoln and Rev O W Smith on Washington. Comrades Jos Stevens John Leighton and D A Monroe attended. Stevens brought Civil War relics and noted his participation at Gettysburg.
Officers led by Chief Kerr and Sheriff Murray raided two city venues run by Matt Koskie and Gus Hendrickson suspected of liquor sales without licenses. Koskie and Hendrickson pled guilty, each fined 75 dollars and costs. A subsequent raid led to further arrests as court dates were set for February 28.
The Knights of Pythias held a Monday carnation ball at the Opera House. A bull was decorated with pink and white carnations and each dancer received a flower. The event drew the largest crowd of the season and was a social success.
Charles Flynn was convicted yesterday afternoon before Judge Calder for selling intoxicating liquors without a license. He received a $75 fine plus costs, and has appealed to the Circuit Court for trial at the May term.
Mrs Lula Loveland Shepard, noted W C T U speaker and Rocky Mountain orator, will appear at the Gem Theatre on Sunday March 11 delivering two talks at 3 p.m. and 7 45 p.m. All are invited to hear this renowned orator.
Mrs Thomas E Dalziel has returned from Kansas and again takes charge of the Dalziel house. Previously run by Mr and Mrs William Daly, the hotel has been a popular destination and with last fall improvements is expected to regain leading status in the city.

Miss Lillian Zanto daughter of Mr and Mrs Gust Zanto and Mr Israel Burgo were united in marriage last Saturday morning at Father Seeboth s residence of the St Louis Catholic church. The young couple are well known throughout the city.
Bayview residents are informed that a two percent fee applies to unpaid taxes after March 1. Treasurer Peter Kjaerwick will be at Lien's store from 9 AM to 4 PM on February 24 and February 28 to collect tax payments.
The church under Pastor H L Goodrich invites attendance at Sunday morning 10 45 with the baptism life vision subject. Sunday school at 9 45 and Epworth League at 6 45. Evening service described as informal. Wednesday prayer meeting at 7 10 with questions and answers.

Frank Preston of Minneapolis was transacting business in the city. A Beaver lodge meeting is planned for Thursday evening next week to install officers, and all Beavers are urged to attend.
Chief A M Kerr fumes over two prominent men freed in municipal court after a street fight. He says no statute covered the case and warns he may act as referee, suggesting if fights are allowed they should follow Queenberry rules. The incident prompts calls for clearer statutes and guidelines.
Boatswains Mate C W Morley leads a Milwaukee Navy Recruiting Party visiting Washburn March 8 9 and 10 to examine and enlist men ages 16 to 80 at the post office. Morley highlights Navy trade schools and advancement opportunities during four year enlistments with options for discharge after one year at sea.
William Maitland of Park Falls announces candidacy for mayor of Park Falls. Former resident who moved to the Soo Line area has served as alderman this past year and now pursues election with favorable odds.
Last Friday evening unknown persons broke into Judge George A Calder’s office in the courthouse and stole most of the liquor seized in the prior raid on the blind pigs. Three jugs containing fifteen gallons of whiskey and several bottles were taken. No suspects yet.
Pastor Christiansen will lead Sunday morning services with Sunday school at noon and English evening services. The Vikings will meet at Nels Oscar's home Wednesday evening next week.
Washburn beats Superior 25 to 23 at the Opera House in this city last Saturday. The Washburn quint, or Washburn boys, played fast basketball and earned a second victory after defeating Superior previously in the season.

The funeral for William Morgan Jones 14 son of Mr and Mrs Frank W Jones of Chicago was held at Mrs Mae Greenwoods residence on East 4th Street Tuesday afternoon with Rev O W Smith of the Congregational church in charge Interment followed at Woodland cemetery He died after a five week illness with pneumonia and other complications The body was shipped to Washburn Sunday The Jones family formerly lived in this city then moved to Chicago Their many friends in Washburn extend sympathies.
A baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs Fred Rhodes on February 13. The families announce the birth and celebrate the new arrival.
