In Calumet Harriet Clark a 13 year old girl reports violent rappings and electric shocks in her room after retiring. Doctors including Dr A G MacLeod cannot explain the disturbances which neighbors can hear at a distance. Some residents fear possession as investigations continue.
Last Sunday delegation of clerks from Ashland organized the Washburn Clerks Union, becoming a branch of the International Clerks Union of the United States and Canada. John Hughes, deputy state organizer, assisted by Max T. Brovan of the Ashland Union, led the ceremonies. The charter membership is about twenty five.
Resolutions from Court Chequamegon Lodge No 3054 of the Independent Order of Foresters mourn the death of George Theriault. The lodge extends sympathy to his family and requests the resolutions be entered in records, copy sent to the bereaved, and published in city papers. The committee includes J. E. Jones P A Oscar and L A Siwonson.
Mrs Frank Morsette died early last Thursday at her home in Sioux River. She was taken to Ashland for burial.

Art McLeod formerly lived in Eagle River now in Washburn Bayfield county is discussed as a potential State Senator for the district. He has served as district attorney and represented the county in the Assembly at Madison last winter. If nominated and elected he would be a bright energetic and painstaking official.
The Young Ladies Society of the Methodist Church will host a Dime Social at the parsonage on Thursday evening. Refreshments including ice cream will be served. A cordial invitation is extended to all to join and enjoy.
Alex McEachen, a cook accused of seriously injuring a youth at Redy’s camp, was held in Duluth until requisition papers from Minnesota officials were secured. Sheriff Welton pursued him to obtain extradition, aiming to bring him to Washburn tonight.
The Garfield School will be officially opened next Friday with a light, informal program. School board members and Prof. Cameron will give brief addresses, music from the guitar, banjo, and mandolin club led by L. J. McDonald, and an art and school work exhibit. Superintendent Jones oversees arrangements with two hundred pictures from Beard Stationery Co. in Minneapolis and teacher displays of room decorations and penmanship. Home Talent presents Captain Jack or the Irish Outlaw by the Columbian Guards of St. Louis Catholic Church at the Gera House next Monday evening with a large cast led by Captain Edward Gordon C Lemere and L Duffy. A second one act comedy Down They Go features John Kearns George Tracy and Steve Musolf among others.

A new railway firm named Chippewa Valley and Northern plans a fifty mile line from Bruce in Chippewa to Hayward in Sawyer. Articles of incorporation were filed with the secretary of state, with capital stock of 150000 dollars. Incorporators Daniel J Edmund Joseph Z Arpin Arthur M Arpin and W R McMillen of Grand Rapids Wood County are lumbermen who also organized Arpin Hardwood Lumber with similar capital. The line links to the Chicago Minneapolis St Paul and Omaha system at Hayward.

Madam and Miss Clara Roach along with W C King left for Alaska last week. Miss Roach had gained recognition in northern Wisconsin and was among Washburn’s earliest settlers, a point noted in the notice.
