County depositaries named fail to file bonds on time
The Iron River Bank and Iron River's bank fail to furnish the required bonds of 23000 by the county board. A new county depository will be named at the February 23 meeting after bids from Bayfield County Bank First National Bank of Bayfield and Mason State Bank. Bayfield and First National offer 2 percent on daily balances while Mason bids 14 percent and Iron River banks offered 3 percent.

State civil service exams set for March and April 1911
The state civil service commission will hold a general examination at county seats on Saturday March 11 1911 for farm foreman carpenter family officer matron forest ranger guard laundryman assistant physician steam engineer and trained nurse. Next April competitive examinations will be held for baker fireman painter plumber steamfitter and teachers for state institutions. Applications may be made at any time for the position of attendant.

Northern Pacific Adds Extra Train On Short Line

Senate bill aims at tax breaks for ore docks in cities
Madison February 10 Senator Sanborn introduced a bill granting tax benefits to cities for ore docks elevators and related railroad terminal facilities. The measure mirrors the Chapple bill vetoed in 1909 by Gov Davidson and is expected to provoke a sharp fight. Superior will send a delegation to press for passage.

Water Main Break Threatens Posey Store Basement
A large water main on Bayfield street broke last Saturday morning in front of the Posey store. Water flooded the basement to over eighteen inches before workers opened the cellar sewer and shut off the flow. Potatoes rutabagas and canned goods were damaged as crews fought the frozen main amid dirt and snow.

New Treasurer Bonds Approved and Oath Taken

Log Work Accident Crashes Employee at Bayfield Mill
Charles Wedin, a log unloading worker at Wadsmuth Lumber Company in Bayfield, was severely injured when a long log rolled from a jam and struck him in the head. He was conscious but in great pain, taken by train to Ashland hospital for evaluation. Wedin, married and a winter landing worker, has community sympathy.
