Federal court request over Washburn railroad dispute surfaces

Receiver A C Frost petitions Wisconsin Supreme Court to transfer foreclosure and related federal questions to the United States circuit court arguing exclusive federal jurisdiction. The filing cites ongoing federal oversight and a last October order to tear up the railroad, while accusing local figures of political maneuvering and enjoining county payments connected to the Battle Axe matter. Fowler Jacobs Company formed to manage cedar business

A new corporation named Fowler Jacobs Company is organized with 25000 capital stock. John H. Fowler of Chicago and John A. Jacobs of this city are principal members and owners. Other incorporators are A. W. McLeod and Miss Marguerite Livingstone. The firm aims to handle cedar operations in the region and expects strong prospects due to the partners' extensive cedar interests.

High School Pupils Make First Declamation and Oratorical Contest

The first series contest of the High School was held at the Congregational Church last Friday evening. Winners were Phil Sheridan in Oratory with Centralization of Capital in the United States and Mabel Pederson in Declamations with the Soul of the Violin. Others included Gene Hawkes Eva Axelberg Anne Kittie Daly Hattie Rummel Angie Geisert. The next meet will be in West Superior in April with schools from Bayfield Superior and the city. the final state contest will determine the winner to compete at the state level.
