Mrs. Mary Ann Clark, 61, of a Grandview farm, set her clothing ablaze in a fit of insanity. She died hours later at Ashland General Hospital after flames consumed her clothes. family recalls past distressing episodes and a son treated for dog bite.
Deeds to about twenty five acres near Tri-county Sanitorium are transferred to Bayfield Ashland and Iron counties for a park. Donor Frank W Helston of Bayfield memorializes the late Mrs Holston. Area, seen as among Chequamegon Bay’s finest, will be improved and linked with the sanatorium.
The S A F lodge expresses deep sympathy to the Pederson family on the death of Jens Pederson, noting his roles as a faithful father and valued member. A copy of the resolutions will be published in the Washburn papers, with Nels Myhre as president and O A Lieum as secretary.
Methodist Episcopal Church led by D. W. Davis offers Sunday school at 9 45 a m with Mrs Fr Beers as superintendent Public worship at 11 a m and Epworth League at 7 p m
Mrs. Frank Arseneau left for Minneapolis in the past week to visit her daughter Mrs. G. Davis.
Park Falls defeats Washburn High 24 to 12 while Bayfield 2nd beats Washburn girls 9 to 6. Scouts beat Bayfield 2nd 16 to 15 in a surprising upset as Hurley girls edge Washburn 9 to 6 amid referee reactions.
A Washburn committee finds Walker High School overcrowded with 100 to 150 extra students. They deem third floor rooms unsanitary and fire dangerous, and note basement lab conditions are improvable. They warn state aid of 12 000 dollars yearly could be cut if repairs or a new building are not pursued. They propose reorganization of the School Board and a spring election to allow bonding for a new high school with voter input.
The Washburn Commercial and Credit Association held its annual meeting at the Commercial Club rooms with many members in attendance. Officers for the coming year were elected: President Ben Ungrodt, Vice President S. E. Swanson, and Secretary-Treasurer A. I. Lien. The association is described as strong and its members are active in its affairs.
At Barksdale based Ondossagon High School a severe influenza outbreak has sickened nearly all teachers. The isolated location and shared teacherage complicate treatment and care as staff members wait for assistance amid the epidemic.
Ashland surged to a 19 to 8 victory as ten players suited up in a bid to seal the win. Washburn girls were soundly defeated by Ashland 23 to 1 in a one sided game.
Mrs. John Jacobs travels to Philadelphia to visit daughter Mrs. G. Hafford. T. C. Oscar from Milwaukee visits family and friends. Fred Doucette leaves for Detroit to work for a major automobile company.

Swedish Lutheran Church services announced with dates and times across Washburn Ashland Bayfield and Birch Lake. Sessions show Feb dates including February 1 15 and 22 with 10 30 a m or 7 30 p m times and one Bayfield 8 February 7 30 p m.
The Chequamegon Co operative Creamery Association will seek bids for a new brick and tile creamery building. Plans by Archibald F. E. Johnson of Superior call for a 44 by 60 foot structure on Washington avenue below Raarup corner. Construction aimed for early spring and growth in business is noted.
Latest Texas reports say Fred Fenton, seriously ill, is holding his own as friends wish for a speedy recovery. Mrs. Walter Hudson has been very sick at her home east of the city. Mrs. John Sundell, ill for two weeks, is now recovering.
The city to host the 2nd annual Father and Son banquet at the Y M C A with a 6 30 PM program. Invitations sent to fathers with sons ten or older in city schools but all men urged to attend. The program features readings, solos, and a guest speaker as part of Father and Son week national observance. Northland Products Company near ready to start manufacturing in Washburn with Amos Hansen and Elmer Oustad leading. Machinery arrived and materials gathered as the plant near the track in former Stevens warehouse prepares to begin operations for several product lines.
Mrs. George M. Sawyer widow of long time Northwestern Fuel agent in Washburn died January 31 in Long Beach California. Interment was February 7 in St Paul. Survived by son E. J. Sawyer a Union Depot ticket agent and a daughter in St Paul. longtime Congregational church worker remembered by Washburnites.

Miss Thelma R. Alton and Walter A. Elmer, both of this city, married at the Methodist parsonage with Rev. Davis officiating. The newlyweds will reside in town and Mr. Elmer works as a barber at the LaLonde shop. The couple is well known with many friends offering congratulations.
Jens Pederson aged 63 died at his home from injuries suffered in a lumber yard accident at Dummond fourteen months earlier. He worked for Rust Owen Lumber Co and died after the hip injury led to death. Funeral today at Norwegian Lutheran church with interment in Woodland cemetery. Survived by children Mary Perley Anna and William. Wife predeceased seven years ago.
