Civil Service Commission Announces New Competitive Exam

The State Civil Service Commission will hold a general competitive examination in late February or early March for several posts. Open to men or both sexes where stated, with salaries from 1400 to 1400 and above. Positions include oil inspectors, policemen, janitors, library clerks, food inspectors, stenographers, bakery inspectors, and a superintendent of buildings at the university.

Colonel Wing gives fifty thousand dollars to Bowdoin College

Colonel Isaac H. Wing of Bayfield presents $50,000 to endow a mathematics chair at Bowdoin College in Brunswick Maine. He turns over five per cent bonds for the amount to President Hyde. A 1855 Bowdoin graduate, Wing's career spans Augusta Maine Hudson Wisconsin timber trade and Bayfield land office service.

Notable Bayfield Republican Leader and Benefactor

Col Wing, longtime Republican State Central committee member, influential in party councils, is renowned for political activity and extensive charitable work. He donated 2000 dollars to the High School for an annual scholarship, funds benefiting many Bayfield churches, and yearly gifts often go unpublicized. He winters in Washington, D. C., and returns to Bayfield in early summer.

The Wisconsin Civil Service Commission announces exams for roles including a building superintendent with $75 to $100 monthly pay, hospital attendants earning $15 to $30 monthly, and deputy game wardens. Open to men and women. promotion from attendant ranks possible. Eligible lists exist for some counties. apply to the Secretary in Madison or your local examiner with a current address.

Loveland lands draw buyers as Washburn field expands

The Loveland company reports strong land sales in the region with J P Lindsey wife and Mr Cross of Sioux City purchasing tracts to build in spring. Rural delivery routes near Washburn set for March with a 684 yearly carrier pay and a February 24 exam date for postal hopefuls. A special inspection may add the Washington avenue settlement to Route No 1, supporting the March 15 start. The community is also reminded of a Friday concert at the church with a varied program of solos recitations and ensembles.
