Wisconsin Western District split into north and south divisions

U S Court Representative Jenkins introduces bill to divide the western judicial district of Wisconsin into northern and southern divisions. Northern includes Ashland Bayfield Sawyer Washburn and Douglas counties. Southern covers remaining counties with regular term dates set for Superior on the third Tuesday of June each year.

Schools Close for Holidays and Winter Vacation

Public schools close Friday for holidays and will reopen January ninth or tenth as the new building nears completion. Professor W. W. Jones leads the graded schools with steady progress, while Professor Cameron and his assistants uplift the High School after last year’s unrest. An able corps of teachers supports broadly improved conditions across departments.

Woodsman Pat Grant Wounded in Camp Attack

Patrol reports Pat Grant badly wounded at Wilkinson's camp on Christmas Day after a confrontation with a fellow workman. The assailant struck with a razor as Grant washed, slashing his face. Grant is at Rhinehardt hospital in Ashland. Sheriff Sullivan and Under-Sheriff Welton pursue the suspect who fled into the woods and remained at large at press time.

Local Youth Guy McFarlane Dies at Home

Twelve year old Guy McFarlane son of Mr and Mrs Frank McFarlane died suddenly at his city home Wednesday evening from heart trouble. Funeral held Saturday at the parental home with burial in Bayfield cemetery.
