Mr and Mrs Tom Skamfer of this city received a message Monday reporting the death of their nephew Elmer Olson who drowned while skating on the pond near the water works plant at Hayward Sunday afternoon. The lad was twelve years old. His mother Mrs Ollie Isaacson is ill in the hospital at Eau Claire.

Miss Dana Van Cleave spent the latter part of last week visiting relatives and friends at Bay field, sharing time with family and local residents.
A joint Sunday school rally will be held Saturday afternoon at the Congregational church with Miss Bailey of Neenah directing the program. A banquet for Sunday school workers and teachers follows at six o'clock, after a busy day of events for pupils and officers.
The Woman's Council will hold a meeting at the Library next Tuesday afternoon at 2 30. Mr and Mrs F T Yates were called here late last week to attend the funeral of their old friend W D Carson. Several ladies rode to Eileen to aid a destitute family in that vicinity.

Miss Ruth Butler of Ashland and Mr. Leo Demars of this city were united in marriage Tuesday morning at 7 o'clock at the St. Louis Catholic church in this city. Father Seeboth performed the ceremony with Fred Demars and Miss Mary Cassidy as witnesses. The couple left for Duluth on their wedding trip and returned last evening, both well known locally and in Ashland.
The Wisconsin Civil Service Commission lists exams on the 16th for jobs from Supervisor of High Schools to Women Deputy and Secretarial Clerk with annual pay from 1 000 to 2 750 dollars. Additional county seat tests cover filing index clerk and more, with special qualifications to prevent fraud. A January 20 1917 preliminary for West Point and Annapolis awaits high school boys.
Misses Dana Van Cleave and Gladys MacDonald hosted a party at the MacDonald home on Friday evening last week. About twenty guests attended a delightful evening with a dainty luncheon served during the gathering.
