Old Resident Chris O Hovde Dies After Campaign of Farming

Chris O Hovde a longtime resident of this city for thirty three years died suddenly early Tuesday morning at 1 50 after fainting while working in the field. Born in Norway May 2 1847 he came to the United States thirty two years ago and settled here. Survived by a wife two daughters Mrs Gilbert Brunness and Mrs A J Axelberg and three sons Peter Harold and one in Crookston and two adopted children Robert and Francis and a cousin Christian Hovde of Woodville. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Axelberg residence Duluth officiating with woodland cemetery burial.

Farmers donate labor to Chequamegon Creamery grounds

Chequamegon Creamery stockholders voted at a recent meeting to donate one day of labor to improve the creamery grounds. An active crew began work Monday, with some members supplying teams and many donating their labor. A large amount of work was completed as the farmers showed strong cooperation.

Workman Killed at Wachsmuth Camp

George Bebich a Wachsmuth Lumber loader was killed instantly when a loading boom struck him on the head in the woods near Indian Settlement on the Salmo road. He was about thirty five, Austrian by birth, with a brother believed to reside nearby. His body was sent to Bayfield for burial.

Y M C A War Work Fund Allocates Scholarships to Bayfield County

National Y M C A War Work Council funds totaling 3 176 562 are allotted to states split into Collegiate and General Scholarship funds. Bayfield County receives 319 00 for local scholarships with a Washburn committee reviewing candidates and awarding based on merit service and need per 1920 regulations.

Washburn Educational Scholarships Plan Seeks Broad Help

The local Educational Committee may assist applicants and back them to the state committee. The State Educational Service aims to serve many men with scholarships often less than full value, with a recommended minimum of 50 dollars. By May 1, 1920, 2500 scholarships averaged about 100 dollars. Ex service men are urged to apply promptly for the fall term. Buy it in Washburn.

Creamery Building Nears Completion in Iron River

T F Mackmiller of Iron River holds the concrete contract for the Chequamegon Creamery Association's new facility. He expects completion by week’s end as carpenters finish the 40 by 60 foot building. Interior plans include a fire room, receiving room, waiting room, boiler room and refrigerator plant. The creamery will have new machinery and may be ready for operation by next month.

Moquah Woman Hangs Self in Barn

Mrs. Frank Zacek a 37 year old Moquah area farmer’s wife was found dead in a barn by her husband after an apparent suicide. The body was discovered after the children, sent to town for Paris green, returned home and could not enter the barn. Coroner Amos M Hansen ruled no inquest.
