Drys Win Victory in State Legislature
In Madison on April 20 the Wisconsin Anti-Saloon League secured Senate approval against the Matheson bill with a 22 to 11 vote. The Morris substitute was defeated 19 to 14. The Roethe Cook amendment removes the inquisitorial feature, sending the bill back to the Assembly with that element gone. The Assembly earlier rejected the Oliver bill 52 to 87, which would have forced railroads to build car sheds for employee protection.
