Attorney E C Alvord returned from Milwaukee after arguing for the county in the bond case. He expects a court decision next Monday, and believes the Sabin Hermann interests will prevail while the county loses.
At Washburn annual town meeting about 250 citizens approved the current salaries: town chairman $600, two supervisors $400 each, and town clerk $900. The meeting adopted sewer and street improvements, limited gambling, and ordered police reports on gambling twice monthly. A $21,500 school appropriation was cut to $16,000 with other allocations approved, and cows banned from streets.
South Shore Mill starts today with three links. Bigelow and Thompson mills set to open Monday with day crews. Klopes Sprague also running. Jacobs mill already operating. By week’s end all mills on this side of the bay expected to be at full blast. Odd Fellows plan 82nd anniversary celebration April 26 at the Opera house with addresses music readings and a dance. Rebekahs assist. Washburn City Band to perform. public invited.
Doctor H G Mertens defends quarantine decisions, denies smallpox at disputed home, rebuts rumors, and urges reporting verifiable facts to aid the health board rather than spreading hearsay. He stresses need for factual information over vague rumor to guide public health actions.

The new town board held their first meeting at the town hall and announced appointments including Chief of Police Wm. Downs and Patrolmen Julius Hustland G. A. Kinney Alex Cyr. The office of Superintendent of the Poor was dispensed with and districting of the poor into three zones was assigned to board members.
