Attempt to destroy Brule River dam ends in partial collapse

Seventy feet of the Doherty dam at the Brule River mouth broke away after assailants lowered the gates during a flood. Loveland, owner with his father, suspects local individuals and has offered rewards for arrests and convictions. Damages run about a thousand dollars amid threats in the Brule area.

Wasbourn County Supervisors Elected In Tight Races

In Wasburn and surrounding towns the new county board members were elected. Key contests occurred in Iron River and Bayfield with RE. F. Danniels defeated and Henry Wacksmith re elected. Washburn town chose A H Hosmer by a small margin.

Oulus New Town Officers Elected and Library Opening

Oulu held its first town election Tuesday with 79 votes. Elected officers include Supervisor chairman Andrew Lauri, John Erickson, Jacob Rankinson. Clerk Archur Abell. Assessor Charley Peterson. Treasurer Andrée Sotaiala. Justices Andrew Carlson Fred Dahl Oscar Nemis to William Bain. Constables John Fox Ness Mattson. The library moves to the new building and opens Saturday night with mandolin club music and a reception from 8 to 10.

Parish Re-Elected Judge Parish Chosen To Succeed Himself

Local election returns show Judge Parish narrowly ahead of Risjord with an overall plurality over Alvord. County tallies reveal Parish leading Gates and Taylor counties while Bayfield Ashland and Iron report mixed results with Risjord strong in Price. Preliminary high school contest to be held Friday evening

The preliminary contest for our high school takes place Friday evening of this week at the opera house. Eight contestants compete with the winner to meet other division schools Bayfield Iron River Hayward and Superior here for the final contest at month end. Special music by the high school. Judges are Miss Edd Bayfield High School English teacher Mr Stecker Ellis School Ashland and E C Alvord Washburn.

Koch Case trial set for April in Mankato

Lee surrender anniversary noted in M E Church service

In response to a G A R request the 40th anniversary of Lee s surrender at Appomattox will be remembered in the Sunday evening service. The morning service keeps its usual format with a topic The Second Sunday Before Easter. A lecture by Professor Merica titled Learn and Living is planned for Friday evening one week hence to interest all ages especially public school students with free admission.
