Brisbane witnesses in the Industrial Court heard the Queens land Assistant Masters Association push for higher pay for teachers of commercial subjects with recognised accountancy diplomas. The request sought a minimum salary of £250 yearly and a maximum rise from £311 to £387, affecting only a few masters. Opponents from churches and schools argued the proposals were too costly and premature. The court noted that an accountancy diploma alone did not justify altering the award and reserved decision.

Brisbane reports the Licencing Commission served notice on Anthony Richard Downes and Gerald Cullen to show cause why the Premier Hotel Toowoomba licence should not be cancelled. The commission heard evidence and decided the licence be cancelled forthwith.
In Oakey and Toowoomba, Robert George Palmer, 20, pleaded guilty to stealing 29 gallons of Shell petrol on December 9 while delivering from a depot. He faced a 1 pound fine or one month in jail after admitting sale of petrol. Denis Gerald McGrath, 24, Oakey garage proprietor, admitted receiving 75 gallons of stolen petrol and was fined one pound and ordered to restitution plus one month’s imprisonment in default.
Canberra reports a planned Premiers Conference in February to seek a uniform national unemployment insurance scheme. Queensland already has its own plan and Tasmania rejects Commonwealth proposals, raising doubts on unanimous support. An actuarial report suggests added costs of at least £680,000 to state budgets, intensifying February opposition and placing the Commonwealth in a bind with its pledge to introduce national insurance. Treasurer R G Casey denies this suggestion.

The installation will complete the shell of a car body by creasing only four panels of steel. Police cleared the wharf after trouble, reinforcements arrived, and the men planned lodging for the night after the vessel left. Watson had only just been released from gaol a day earlier.
Melbourne reports the term of High Commissioner in London Mr Bruce is formally extended for five years beyond the current period ending October 7 1838. Prime Minister Lyons announced the decision noting Bruce’s outstanding work for Australia and his international service.
Canberra reports about up to fourteen large motor launches needed to fuel and transport passengers for the Empire flying boat air mail service, with two boats at seven bases from Darwin to Sydney. Bases will feature moorings, tide landing stages, and delayed work at Groote Eylandt Karumba Townsville until after the rainy season. Night air mail beacons and lighting will expand across multiple towns, including Darwin Cloncurry Longreach Archerfield and more, with possible flood lighting at Ballarat Beaufort and nearby locations.

Sydney inquiry opened into the death of Marguerite O'Brien a 19 year old woman whose body was found in a paddock at Parramatta North on November 20. The husband Dudley O'Brien a 22 year old baker was in custody after being charged with murder at Liverpool on November 23. Evidence to date includes witness accounts from Greta Boesen known to the deceased and workplace associates, with medical officer noting death could be caused by choking but not establishing a definite cause. the inquest was adjourned to Glebe Court for further hearing.
In Perth Supreme Court the will dispute involving testator William Lumsden was settled by withdrawing imputations against Presbyterian ministers Rev George Tulloch and Rev John Henderson. Lumsden left £1000 for home mission work, £1000 for a Nedlands church, and £100 for Henderson’s car expenses, with executor Tulloch, and his sister Agnes Wright Hind receiving a sum per judge's orders.
