Explosion in Basement Destroys Hickman Saloon Building
An afternoon gas explosion at Robert M. Hickman’s Wear Center street saloon demolished the basement rooms, injuring Hickman and others including Elisha Tennant Frank Summy and Chas Kendall. Doctors Hines treated Hickman’s severe burns. The blast shattered the floor stove and furniture, leaving only a large mirror undamaged. Earlier, Pennsylvania Railroad officials toured Warsaw on a multi-train inspection led by General Manager James A. McCrea, spending the night in Winona.
