Court House Notes on Courts and Real Estate Transfers

Man Released From Prison After Wrongful Conviction

John Booker of Piergeton, jailed for over a year for the Rafiter stabbing, was released after an appellate court granted a new trial finding he had no involvement. He stood in the crowd where the stabbing occurred, was intoxicated then, and knew nothing of the act. The warden praised his good conduct. Booker was freed on recognizance pending further proceedings.

Board of Education OKd New Truant Officer at Court House

The county board of education met at the court house with 21 members present. A. A. Haser nominated W. J. Dillingham for truant officer. Wayne Anglin won on 12 of 21 votes. A committee notified Anglin and he thanked the board. They discussed joint eighth grade commencement in Winona Park for June with invited state educators and potential addresses. The plan replaces township commencements and omits student essays.
