The Kosciusko County courts deal with foreclosures and guardianship. Dismissals include Geo W Rich v James L Martins and Chas Daniele v H T Kilne. Board of Children's Guardians gains custody of George Dixon aged 30 and Lydia Dixon aged seven. Real estate transfers list multiple pairings with prices. Probate appoints guardian for Jessie Martin. Arthur F Biggs named commissioner to sell described property with 20 days notice. Week ending March 22 1902 lists transfers across townships with various buyers and amounts.
County political notes discuss a Plymouth congressional convention next Wednesday with reduced Warsaw to Plymouth fares. Elkhart Republicans fear loss of old county council in favor of a partisan board. Democrats aim to nominate current council members to preserve nonpartisan governance. Reports mention South Bend agents seeking appointments, Miller and St. Joseph county tensions, and hopes for wiser counsel amid early convention pressures.
The Prohibitionista of the county met in Webber's hall and nominated a full county ticket led by J Esta Wayden for representative and J A Miller for treasurer. Mil ton B Robinson was selected sheriff and Henry C Kinsey and Emanuel Wolf as commissioners. Delegates to the state prohibition convention to meet in Indianapolis April 15 and 16 were named, including J W Sensenbaugh and Emanuel Wolf among others.
Stephen Reed owner of a Weat Cen ter street boarding house died on the first Thursday morning at 85 after a long Lumber career in Pierceton. Funeral held Saturday at 4 o clock led by Rev G W Henry. Also Lovey Wolford, 75, longtime War saw resident, died last Wednesday. Funeral held at residence with Rev G Ky Byrer officiating. Interment Oakwood cemetery. Oliver H Matthews, born December 18 1843 in Preble Ohio died in Chicago March 4 1902 after ten years residence there. Married Dec 25 1873 to Leonora Ann Sherburn. Daugher Lena Matthews survives with father and many relatives. Matthews helped found Lesh Manufacturing around 1878 and later moved to Chicago.
