Flight Lieutenant S. N. Webster of England captured the Schneider Cup race for seaplanes on the Lido, averaging 286.1 mph over seven 50 kilometer laps, beating last year’s winner by 48.604 mph as rivals from Italy failed to finish. Tunney says he began to rise before nine in the Chicago Dempsey fight but signals from Gibson and Bronson kept him down. He plans to spend the day visiting friends before night departure.

London dispatch from the Exchange Telegraph says 5000 people were killed last Thursday by a tidal wave at Youngkong, 150 miles southwest of Hongkong. The wave destroyed 20000 homes and 400 junks and sampans, with damage estimated at 1,000,900 dollars.
Washington Sept 26 UP Pittsburgh Post II of the American Legion will rename the post in memory of Brig Gen Brett. Funeral tomorrow for General Brett who died of pneumonia last week after service with the Eightieth Division. Many Eightieth Division Association members have arrived for the ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
An epidemic of infantile paralysis spreads from Roumania to England, with 300 plus cases and up to 30 percent fatalities. Romania and Germany are hardest hit. Britain reports only one recent cluster in Hull. France shows no deaths since July as special cabinet measures and border controls rise.
The Weather Bureau forecast freezing temperatures icy rain and snow flurries sweeping the middle west by tomorrow night. Temperatures in the 60s this morning were expected to drop by about 20 degrees within 24 hours as storm warnings were issued for Lake Superior Huron and Michigan.

The Department of Commerce reports urban auto fatalities rose slightly year over year. In 77 cities 6 961 deaths occurred in the year ending Sept 10 compared with 6 462 prior. 21.6 per 100 000 city residents died, up 6 percent from 20.4. Camden New Jersey had the highest rate with 422 deaths per 100 000.
Carl Nolly, convicted slayer of Philadelphia Patrolman Charley Gay, was electrocuted at the state penitentiary. He received two shocks at 7 03 and 7 07 am and died at 7 08 am. He refused consolation, spoke only to guards, and offered no confession.
Pittsburgh Sept 26 Paul Smith 30 of Harrisburg a coal and iron patrolman was turned over to the county coroner as a witness in the investigation of the death last Friday of Mrs Helen Postek 45 of Coverdale near here Mrs Postek was shot during a party at her home in Coverdale She died soon afterward Smith was at Mrs Posteks home at the time of the shooting detectives said He was arrested and held in the county jail on a district attorney detainer Smiths story that the shooting was accidental has been corroborated by the womans husband and other witnesses to the shooting detectives said No recommendations other than that Smith was a witness will be made to the coroner Samuel Frechoff according to the story told detectives while examining Smiths gun accidentally pulled the trigger the shot striking Posted as she stepped into the room Koff has not been apprehended
