Chinese militarists order a blockade on the Yangtze and Whangpoo Rivers near Shanghai endangering foreign shipping. Dispatches cite river forts at Woo Sung 15 miles from the international settlement. Foreign powers expected to protest the action.

Camden New Jersey September first Mrs Hannah Butler jailed as a common scold faced possible life imprisonment if she stayed after Warden Powell demanded her departure under a bond arranged by friends. Butler vowed not to move and was informed that voluntary incarceration would cost one dollar per day, with continued detention until the debt is worked off at a dollar per day. Three in Crash Pittsburgh September first injured include Mrs Elizabeth Spinelli 48 Lucrezia Slangetti 12 Viela Donellicci 11 and Norma Moskazz 4 all residents of Pittsburgh.
National telegraph messages indicate an aviator may have landed in the Brazilian interior near Alemquer, with Belem and Santarem confirming the possibility of Redfern. Officials state organized search would be difficult without formal assistance from authorities and the U.S. consulate in Belem.

Corry Sept 1 A coroner's jury absolved Carl Rickerson Pittsfield driver of the car in the Dowd fatality finding he acted to avert a crash and was struck while slowing to help tow a car. Dowd 43 died at hospital from skull fracture and other injuries after a collision on the Cong Union City highway Tuesday evening. Dowd's funeral set for Friday at 466 East Milnera. He and his wife and daughter attended the wake.
William Barbush attempted to use an electric cigar lighter while driving in Harrisburg. The lighter broke and flames erupted. He tried to extinguish the fire but lost steering and crashed into a fire hydrant. Water from the hydrant put out the blaze though his car was badly damaged.
A weather system developed off the middle Atlantic coast brings rain from Washington to Boston this morning. A northern Manitoba disturbance lowers pressure across the region, with light showers across much of the country. Cool weather persists as highs range from 54 to 78 degrees in observed cities. Friday will see slightly warmer conditions and a sunrise at 5 17.
