Warren and Northwestern Pennsylvania communities mourn the death of John B. Moore a prominent citizen aged 78 who died Monday night. Services are set for the home at 3 p m with funeral arrangements announced by local authorities and family.

Grantim began at 7 am today on a flight to countries near Germany. This is the Zeppelins third trial flight, aiming to soon cross oceans toward the United States.

Washington Oct 2 U P Stanley Bucky Harris, five year manager of the Washington Senators, will not direct the club next season but will remain on the reserve list as a player. President Clark Griffith called the move for the club's best interests and offered possible sale or transfer to another club if Harris seeks a new job. Harris joined the team in 1919 and was made manager in 1924, guiding the club to the pennant and World Series title the following season.
In Alliance Ohio an elderly man, 73, is believed to have set fire to his farm buildings and then shot himself after the barn burned. Family reported the man, John E. Witherspoon, was at home during the fire and later missing before authorities found his body with bones and parts of a shotgun among the ruins.
Chicago October 2. Eleven thoroughbred racing horses valued at more than 200000 dollars were burned to death when a blaze swept the John D Hertz stables near Cary Illinois. Reigh Count champion 3 year old of 1928 and Kentucky Derby winner was led to safety by stable boy Jimmy Allen. Amita Peaxbody Belmont futurity winner of 1927 and six other horses were saved. Among the destroyed horses were Leonarett Sandalian Insulla Black Servant St Lacy and Sandalbar. Investigating if an incendiary started the blaze. Continued on Page Two.
Warren residents plan Donation Day for the Children’s Home on Conewango Avenue with Boy Scouts collecting from all borough districts. Officials urge groceries and household items, canned goods, jelly, jam, fruit, and vegetables. Donations should be ready by Oct 13, placed on porches. last year about fifty scouts and ten merchant trucks assisted.
Lester J. Hendershot of West Elizabeth Pennsylvania, famed for a fuelless motor claim, was held on a charge of abusing his mother Effie Hendershot after police said he chased her with a revolver. a gun was found on him. Police also review a prior worthless checks case in Tarentum.
Franklin Pa October 2 Peter Beers of Cochraitton ate his watch crystal and part of a pint milk bottle while a prisoner in the Oil City Jail to commit death by his own action. Physicians said Beers would recover from the glass impact. He was serving a sentence for driving an automobile while intoxicated.
Robert C. Haberkorn, 34, former teller of United States National Bank of Johnstown Pa, pleaded guilty to embezzling and false entries. He was sentenced to three years in the federal penitentiary at Atlanta by Judge Nelson B. Vicary. The indictment cited $10,196.28 but prosecutors said actual embezzlements neared $91,000 over a decade. Haberkorn said he returned $10,000 by selling a farm and insurance, and admitted losses from stock market speculation.
President Coolidge at the White House states the war debt matter is closed and will not be reopened. The remark follows Premier Poincare of France signaling that German reparations must wait for a broader readjustment of all war debts, especially those to the United States.
M. T. Yamamoto, American correspondent for the Japan Times and Mail, will address the Warren Kiwanis club at noon Wednesday at the Conenango club building. He will present an illustrated talk on Japan with slides of Japan, Korea and Manchuria. Yamamoto previously spoke to the Tocal Kiwanis on American Japanese relations after seven years of Chautauqua and Lyceum tours in the United States and Canada.
Herbert Hoover rearranges his speaking schedule with a Boston address on October 15 and a New York City speech on October 22. The changes come after a conflict with New York state's registration on October 14 at Madison Square Garden. Hoover had been set to speak in Boston on October 25.
CATO Traffic officials welcomed Monday night action by the borough council to establish Pennsylvania avenue and Market street as through streets for motor traffic. An ordinance authorizing the measure was requested by the state department of highways to allow sign erection. The ordinance designates Pennsylvan ia avenue and Market street within borough limits and requires motorists to stop before proceeding with right of way to through traffic.
M. L. Welsh, jailed in September on a liquor plea, was released on parole from county jail Tuesday after posting $200 cash bail to cover the fine and paying court costs. Judge D. A. Arird had sentenced Welsh to six months for illicit possession, a sentence later cut to three months with parole eligibility.
Pittsburgh report: Pennsylvania motorists with color blindness could be banned from night driving if the state board of optometric examiners recommendations are approved by the 1929 legislature. Edward F. Schlee and William S. Brock abandoned their attempt to set a world record for sustained flight after a leaky gasoline tank forced a landing at Rockwell Field in San Diego. They had flown 69 hours and 30 minutes, surpassing the American record but trailing the world mark of 65 days and 25 minutes held by German flyers Ristiter and Zimmerman.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was nominated today by the Democratic state convention to run for governor against Albert Ottinger. Roosevelt, drafted after initial reluctance, was praised by Mayor James Walker and Rep. George W. Smith for Governor Alfred E. Smith. The platform adopted before Smith's speech lauds his nomination for president and outlines a slate including Lehman for lieutenant governor and Copeland for U.S. Senate.
Governor Smith will leave Rochester for Albany then continue a western campaign. Herbert Hoover prepared a speech for Elizabeth town Tennessee, adjusted from October 13 due to New York registration. William Allen White praised Smith, calling him courageous and honest, while Senator Charles Curtis moved to Chicago amid Republican strategy. Robinson accused Curtis and GOP leaders of trifling with the farm problem.
