A New York American column surveys tax increases, public works funding, and a note on Harding era bond suspicions linked to Marion Star sales with no proof. At the Community Chest Campaign supper at the YMCA on Thursday night 484 pledges were signed and 5454.25 pledged. Three day totals reached 2586 pledges and 47706.10 dollars with 1298.90 still needed to reach 49000. Campaign extended one more day with final reports due at the YMCA Friday at 7 30 p m.
Warren County commissioners announced a tax rate of 12 mills on approximately 24 million dollars in assessed valuation. At $1.20 per hundred dollars, the levy matches last year. The 1928 budget includes road and bond items totaling over 200 thousand dollars and notes state and county shares for Route 69 construction. Construction begins from Torpedo through Pittsfield to Grand Valley. bids not yet issued.
The Tribune reports a Warren poll showing little sentiment for daylight saving time with eastern standard time favored. Kiwanis members discussed the proposal, led by Perry Davidson, with members Crary Borg McClure Chaffee Pierson Eaton Sarvis offering varied views.
Representative Theodore Burton urged a stop to the whispering campaign against Herbert Hoover during a Cleveland speech. Republican leaders, including William R. Wilcox, indicated Coolidge could be nominated at the convention. Wilcox declined to reveal his conference topic with the president. Arthur B. Rule claimed agricultural groups favored Hoover as the GOP nominee.
Harrisburg March 23 The weekly motor vehicle bureau report shows 29 people killed and 244 injured in accidents this week. Fourteen of the dead and 67 of the injured were pedestrians, the lowest pedestrian toll in weeks. There were 266 motor accidents, with 75 on straight road sections.
The Soviet delegation to the League of Nations preparatory disarmament commission announced it would submit immediately a new project for limitation or reduction of armaments.
Warren to Kane and Sheffield routes map new service starting April from Warren. First bus leaves Warren at 7 a m to Kane on Sundays and 6 a m on weekdays, with hourly shuttles and peak extra buses. Fares range from 15 cents to 1 25 dollars, with earnings listed for each leg.

In Pittsburgh on March 23, 37 United Mine Workers pickets were jailed as part of a sweeping crackdown by Sheriff Robert H. Braun. Total arrests reached 65 since yesterday, with Patrick T. Fagan among those detained. Bail set at 600 dollars. riots and unlawful assembly charges filed. both sides vow to press the dispute as more arrests loom.
Sixty striking miners led by Mrs Penick assaulted thirty non union workers emerging from Wheeling township mine number two near Summers Cadiz Ohio. Stones and sticks flew until tear bombs repelled the mob. Earl Christy, mine superintendent, was knocked unconscious. Governor Donahey observer Major George Bolen reported the attack and a warrant was sworn for Mrs Penick.

Washington March 23. John D. Rockefeller Jr. testified before the senate coal investigating committees and denied that coal companies in which he is interested have broken contracts with the United Mine Workers.
Marian E. Allard a 19 year old student nurse from Watertown New York was on the fourth floor of Albany General Hospital when a serious fire broke out She cleared the floor of patients and was injured jumping from a window to save her life.
Borough police committee chaired by C W Barwis meets with Burgess L E Chapman and others to adopt new parking rules. Proposals set one hour limits in most zones with specific diagonals and parallels. Six hour limits apply Sundays and other days 6 pm to 3 pm, 9 pm start on Saturdays.
In Congress today the Senate votes on the Radin conference report and resumes debate on Norbeck migratory bird legislation while continuing examinations of Cotton and Teapot Dome. The Commerce Committee considers Jones flood control. The House continues consideration of the Navy department appropriation bill as the Agriculture and Naval Affairs committees review farm relief and Navy secretary Wilbur's remarks on all legislation.
Warren merchants endorse April 11 Cham berlin Day to honor trans Atlantic flyer visit. American Legion backing, flag displays, and downtown decorations planned with residents joining in. Chamberlin to fly from Erie arriving morning of April 11 to land near DeLuxe Metal Furniture, perform stunts, then address at Library Theatre at 8 15 p m with motion pictures. Tickets available from Legion Lions Rotary Krwanis, and merchants. A daylight saving opposition resolution was approved by attending merchants only.
In Washington on March 23, hundreds of people seek a Lindbergh flight. An invitation to Congress has been accepted by 300 members and relatives already flown in three days, with 200 to 300 more applications to be processed as Lindbergh pilots sightseeing over the capital. He began flights at 9:30 a.m.
