Chrysler officials announce Jan 10 price reductions on the new Chrysler 52 and Great New 62. Roadster and coupes drop by $50 to $106, with multiple body styles seeing savings from $5 to $145. The 62 offers roomier wood and steel bodies and features like Rubber Shock Insulators and Seven-bearing crankshaft. In 1927 Chrysler rose to third in national sales.
Company officials say 1927 sales of both cars were the highest yet attained. They note that by passing on to the public the greater value made possible by new prices, a still greater number of motor car owners can now take advantage of the abilities offered in these two cars.
Willys Overland touts the Whippet's feats from coast to coast fuel economy to extreme altitudes and speed. Highlights include Cannonball Baker’s coast run at 3559 miles at 43.28 mpg, Death Valley to White Mountains ascent, Stone Mountain climb for 10000 spectators, Atlanta to Macon speed of 48.3 mph, Rockingham 91.6 mph, Mt. Diablo ascent in 24 minutes 6 seconds, Sacramento to New York 2205 miles in 5 days 8 hours 47 minutes, and Elmira mileage 12605 miles in 30 days at 31.1 mpg. Officials claim the Whippet’s performance prompts rivals to adopt its features.
