Buffalo Pittsburgh highway near East Kane. An unidentified car tried to pass another and rammed into a Davis family car from Johnsonburg. Gwilyn Davies, 50, and Mrs Davies, 40, with serious injuries. Davies Jr, 14, severely cut. Two more children injured. All taken to Kane Summit hospital.
American Legion plans in France remain intact says national director Sowers despite Paris riots over Sacco and Vanzetti execution. Thousands of Legionnaires in France, 15,000 more expected at sea, amid heavy guard around the American embassy and protests spreading to provinces and Paris districts. Police injuries and hundreds arrested as demonstrators wreck streets and attack Americana.
Aug 24 UP A 15 year old boy, How ard Francis Heasley of Herman six miles east of Butler, was killed almost instantly when the boiler used at an oil well exploded while he aided his father Joseph Heasley who escaped unharmed. The Derrick and other machinery were badly damaged.
An unexplained submarine disturbance off Ambrose Lightship rocked the French liner France near New York harbor for three minutes. Passengers including tennis star Jean Bordtra were bruised. captain Marius Aubert reported no serious injuries and noted unusual sea motion possibly from cross currents or land swell.
State control of the air is inaugurated as the Pennsylvania state aeronautics commission is formally organized at 2 p m in the governor’s reception room at the capitol. Governor appointed members attend except W D B Ainey who is abroad. The first meeting will choose a secretary and a chairman under the Turner act, making Pennsylvania a pioneer in aviation regulation.
In Minneapolis Aug 24 George Von Elm champion of champions from Los Angeles led John McKinley of Chicago two up at the turn in the first round of the National Amateur golf championship. McKinley trailed after 9 holes as Von Elm pressed with accurate drives and solid approach shots.
Honolulu, Aug. 24. Hopes that Dole fliers might be safe were sparked by reports of green flares on Mauna Kea. Army planes returning from Hawaii said the flares were just a gasoline light being tested by a ranchman on the mountain slope.
Ardmore August 24 Ill health today was named as the cause of the suicide of James N Hildreth of Cape May New Jersey a prominent southern New Jersey lawyer and former judge of Cape May county courts who shot himself by a roadside near Gladwyne last night He was sixty five and had been recuperating from a long illness at a Gladwyne sanitarium His body was found by a pedestrian with a pistol in his hand He had served as city solicitor of Cape May and represented the city in the New Jersey state assembly in 1904 06.

Hazleton August 24 AUP The Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company boosted anthracite coal price by 25 cents per ton, effective September 1, reversing last spring’s decrease. Other large anthracite companies in the region are expected to announce similar September 1 raises. National League games Pittsburgh at Boston postponed due to rain.

Mrs. Alena M. Atkins, 65, of New Britain, sues her 90-year-old husband for divorce claiming abuse began ten years after their Springfield marriage. The couple has a son, Frederick E. Atkins, Jr. The filing comes as they near a potential golden wedding anniversary next January.
San Francisco August 24. US Pacific Fleet has launched a vast search for Miss Mildred Doren and six Dole flight aviators missing after a flight from Hawaii toward the mainland. Warships, destroyers, and submarines, aided by Langley and Aroostook air units, scour a 200 mile radius with planes and ships converging in a fanwise net. Hope fades as authorities fear they did not survive on rations, with operations to continue until Thursday before reassessment.
Pittsburgh August 24 UP every law agency in the state is at work trying to recapture three men two convicted murderers who escaped from jail and one wanted for the murder of State Trooper J J Downey. It is six days since the jaworski vasbinder jail break and the Downey killing near Acmetonia. Detectives believe Vasbinder and Jaworski are hidden in Allegheny or Washington counties while Downey’s slayer is in adjacent swamps. Sixty state policemen county detectives and deputy sheriffs join in the manhunt.

He hooks twelve mountain trout in Fire-Hole River while observing wary highland fish, plans return to Custer, South Dakota, with secret service guard Harvey Ingley encountering a tame bear outside the presidential suite.
