School Directors Withhold Action On New Buildings

School board at the high school rejected bids for a Home Street four room building by a 38 vote. A building program was outlined to include a 12 room Glade School on the Lacy plot, an addition to Jefferson, and a small South Side facility to ease primary age crowding. The plan, costing about 300000, targets three borough schools and calls for a building committee led by Beshlin Clinger and Eldred to draft details. Jefferson enrollment stands at 556. Glade houses 246 and is overcrowded with lax sanitary conditions. Fearing state action, voters may be asked to approve the project at the polls. Summer-session results show 102 of 112 students completed courses, at half the normal cost.
