The American Legion giant biplane crashed near Mesick Virginia during a test flight from Langley Field one mile from the field killing Commander Noel Davis and Lieut Stanton H Wooster. The three motor Keystone Pathfinder suffered total loss after nose dive into five inches of water. Wooster a Navy aviator and Davis a Naval Academy graduate were to attempt a New York to Paris nonstop flight.
In Ambridge on Lincoln Highway a 29 year old man John Cassidy and 23 year old Ruth Cronise were found shot dead in a confectionery store. A revolver lay near Cassidy. Police believe Cassidy killed Cronise then shot himself. Cronise had been separated from her husband for about a year. Cassidy ran the store where refreshments were sold to passersby.
In Los Angeles on April 26 actress Doro thy Mackaye and Dr. Walter Sullivan were placed under technical arrest on indictments alleging two felony counts. The grand jury charged them with attempting to conceal a crime and with compounding a felony in connection with the death of Ray Raymond, musical comedy star and Mackaye’s husband. Bond set at five thousand dollars each. bail posted by the actress, with Sullivan awaiting arrangements.
The giant airship The American Legion crashed during a test flight at Norfolk, killing Commander Noel Davis and Lieut. Stanton H. Wooster. The Norfolk accident marks the second fatality in the New York to Paris nonstop attempt, a perilous history that has not deterred other explorers. Existing mishaps include Rene Fonck's Sikorsky disaster, Richard E. Byrd's crash, and the Bellanca monoplane's landing gear damage during a high endurance flight.
Ruth Snyder sits pale yet composed as George McLaughlin, once New York’s top detective, testifies she and Henry Judd Gray spoke of their affair and plot to kill her husband. Testimony includes a five pound iron window weight used in the alleged murder with Gray purchasing it in March.

A lightning strike at about 2:80 pm sparked a fire in a gasoline tank at United Refinery on the East Side. Fire units from Centennial and Central stations fought the blaze, which was soon controlled after most oil was pumped out. The five thousand gallon tank held 60-62 gravity gasoline, and this marks the third refinery fire started by lightning in the past year.
Harrisburg April 26 The signing of the Turner aviation bill by Governor Fisher was postponed today due to rain. Some supporters planned to travel to demonstrate approval but anticipated delays caused by weather. Also weather postponements affected a Boston at Philadelphia baseball game and an American League Washington matchup.
Washington April 26 President and Mrs Coolidge were guests of honor at the United Press Association's 20th anniversary dinner in New York. They returned to the temporary White House in Dalton Circle and the president retired early, with the address at the New York dinner to appear on page nine.
President Coolidge spoke at the United Press associations twentieth anniversary dinner in New York, defending his abroad policy and highlighting actions in Mexico, Nicaragua, and China. He urged a fair American press and criticized outlets inflaming anti foreign sentiment while defending American lives and property overseas.
Georg Clark of Bloomsburg, carrying five dollars, arrived in Harrisburg on an aging bicycle en route to Washington, D.C. He rode the 72 miles from Bloomsburg to Harrisburg in one day, dressed in civilian clothes with a derby hat. He plans to reach Frederick, Maryland, 76 miles away, today and finish a 90 mile leg to his friend’s home on Wednesday.
