In Chambersburg April 15 a four year old, Tommy Ruby, showed defiance when questioned about shooting his mother Mrs. Hail Ruby. He told investigators I shot her. No charges will be pressed as state authorities and townsfolk debate if the act was a child’s rage or a conscious crime. Tommy remained at home with his father, actor, and infant brother as the funeral for Mrs. Ruby was set for today. A knife threat during police questioning was stopped before it reached the coroner.
Clara E. Lutz, 27, was acquitted of murdering her husband George H. Lutz in a Northside dairy store room. A visiting judge reversed a prior verdict, while the defense claimed jealousy and a mysterious stranger involved the case.
Four more destroyers in park proceed to Shanghai after orders from Admiral Williams. The Blackhawk and Maceiah to leave within two days after repairs are finished. P. Cortelyou, chief county detective and former director of public safety, died at his New York home aged 68. His brother George B. Cortelyou, once a member of President Roosevelt's Cabinet, was at his bedside. Cortelyou is survived by his wife, a son, and three others.
Harrisburg April 15 Governor Fisher approved a batch of administration gasoline tax measures. He signed the main bill raising the statewide gasoline tax from two to three cents a gallon and approved the deficiency bill carrying about 3.2 million in appropriations including 1.65 million for school aid.
Two men died in a Lehigh Valley railroad bunkhouse fire near Sayre after it broke out today. Carl Johnson and Fred Meher were recovered since firefighters contained the blaze. Police arrested six Sayre and Towanda residents for questioning over possible arson and a false alarm.
Harrisburg April 15 The 1927 Pennsylvania legislative session is over with under 200 members in the hall as janitors sweep up vast piles of printed bills and files. Governor Fisher plans swift action to clear the mass, while out of town lawmakers depart for home. Regular reporters remain as a stale cigars scent lingers in the capitol committee room.
A cottage party at Macadowa Park on Lake Michigan was blamed on an overturned oil stove. The fire, fanned by a brisk east wind, leveled more than camps and caused about $00,000 in losses. Firefighters halted the blaze at 4 am. Macadawa Park, a Lake Michigan resort, saw 16 Grand Rapids cottages, three from South Bend, and two from Chicago destroyed.
Mary Lewis, Arkansas chorus singer, and Nichel Bohnen, German soprano with the Metropolitan Opera, wed in a swift ceremony after weeks of courtship. They will pursue European engagements.
