Washington April 8 Henry L Stimson newly appointed special investigator of the Nicaraguan problem was discussed as a possible successor to Secretary of State Kellogg if he resigns this summer Stimson a former secretary of war and Coolidge adviser on Tacna Arica policy has been asked to report on a formula for future relations with Nicaragua under the protectorate treaty The move to protect American rights in the interoceanic canal and naval bases amid the civil war is viewed as aiding stability and American interests overseas.
Franklin April 8 Venango County will wage a determined war to eradicate the corn borer County Farm Agent Eugene Tifft announced after naming 21 township chairmen and 126 school district leaders The voluntary cleanup must be completed by May 1 after which state crews will clean any fields not yet done Many tractors will be brought in to join the effort.
April 8 reports describe games of chance at the Twelfth Ward Republican club where bandits held up patrons in the early hours and netted about $10,000. Police know four names, including H. Sherman of Johnstown, who estimated losses at $60 as total losses rise from initial $6,500 to about $10,000. The heist involved takings from the club safe and a gaming table.
Harrisburg April 8 Seven measures signed into law by Governor John S Fisher passed by the legislature. Highlights include a $25 annual registration fine for osteopaths, district attorney power to appoint county detectives in sixth class counties at up to 2500 dollars a year, and counties like Bradford Carbon Crawford Franklin Lebanon Lycoming Mercer Venango Fay Mercer lines for book accounting inspections. Also allowed gas distributors to blend natural and artificial gas for public supply.
New York April 8 a public demonstration of television showcased voice and face transmission over wires from Washington to New York with Hoover speaking via loudspeaker. The epoch making event connected more than 200 miles of wire and included a Whippany N J radio program and a synchronized blackface act.

Harrisburg April 8 Governor Fisher vetoed Rep Hagmaier Allegheny bill to abolish high constable offices in boroughs with police. He said officers would still have duties under law such as posting election notices, which are not assigned to borough police.
Italian world flyer Francests De Pinnedo departed Phoenix at 11 08 a m aboard a naval flying plane bound for San Diego. He traveled with three accompanying planes and appeared disturbed by reports that the burning of his plane was part of a plot.
Two lawyers sued each other to court in Worcester Massachusetts and both won their cases. After an automobile accident, Nathan Sige L. Parker filed counterclaims. The jury awarded Sige $281 in damages. The same jury also awarded Parker $660.
American participants joined a picket of the Soviet consulate in Shanghai under police coverage. Municipal council member Stirling Fessenden said the council would assume responsibility for the action as Chiang Kai Shek’s nationalist forces planned moves toward Nanking and Peking, with tensions rising and Soviet protests over the embassy raid.
In Boston tonight Senator William Borah of Idaho and President Nicholas Murray Butler of Columbia University will debate the question whether the 1929 Republican platform should advocate repealing the 18th Amendment. Butler supports the affirmative as thousands attend in Symphony Hall while radio listeners await the two hour clash, part of a Roosevelt Club campaign amid party tensions.

Conditions are good and survivors from the last hunting season weathered winter well as corn and wheat were plentiful for food. Pittsburg April 8. Paul Jaworski, linked to the Coverdale holdup and the Mollenauer holdup, faces trial for the murder of payroll guard T B J Gump at the Pittsburg Terminal Coal Co. trial slated to begin Monday.
A defective gas pipeline caused a fatal gas leak in a room at 4 focal boarding house in Ambridge. Harry Hepler, 25, was killed. Firefighters and police investigated the scene and ruled the incident an accidental death.
Hon E S Lindsey L J Holmes Hoff Business college and Rev A A Swanson chosen as judges for Warren County High School oratorical contest in Warren High auditorium starting at 8 pm. Superintendent CS Knapp to chair. Winner represents county at Greenville then Birmingham and Washington DC for the national meet. Contest subjects include The Constitution and Lincoln’s Contribution with students Barrett Youngsville Duell Pearson Sheffield among the entrants.
The Hornsby stock dispute remains unresolved as Rogers Hornsby plans to send his attorney to a National League meeting. President John Heydlec warns Hornsby cannot play for New York and hold St. Louis stock, amid a 1,167 share holding bought for 45 dollars each and now valued at 105 dollars. Indications after luncheon suggested progress in solving the issue.
Paris, April. Mrs. W. K. Vanderbilt of Illinois will seek a Paris divorce to dissolve the marriage celebrated twenty eight years ago this month. United Press learns from a usually reliable source that Mrs. Vanderbilt arrived at Cherbourg today from New York aboard.
State officials and Oil City boosters report progress toward placing the Allegheny highway as far south as Henrys Bend on the omnibus bill. Assemblyman Donnell supports two mile by mile limits but will back the total length in the omnibus measure. A new Harrisburg delegation will press the case early next week with senate committee action set for Monday.
Western Parkhain tonight and Saturday see little temperature change. A single low pressure center over Utah brings cloudy weather from the eastern high pressure area. Precipitation spread from the Dakotas to the Tennessee Valley with rain in Ohio Indiana Illinois Iowa Missouri and rain and thunderstorms in the south. Snow fell in the Dakotas Minnesota Wisconsin, with warmer trends overall. Observations show varied readings from Atlantic City to Yellowstone Park and a sunset at 6 32.
