Damaged Conewango dam near Oakview under washout threat
The 599 year old Conewango Creek dam at Oakview above North Warren is eroding after spring ice loss. About 35 feet breached last March with more dam to fail as waters undermine the wall. Built in 1900 to power North Warren, it also allowed Oakview campers to enjoy water recreation. Blomquist Island is now landlocked as the dam washes away. The structure, once maintained by E T Hazeltine’s Beshlin Valve Co, has seen little attention since the 1947 sale.
