Postmaster General Forms Advisory Committee on Obscenity
Postmaster General Arthur Summerfield names a nine member Citizens' Advisory Committee on Literature to advise on mailability of books and obscenity standards. The panel includes Douglas Black, Dr Erwin Canham, Rev William Cousins, Roscoe Drummond, Chloe Gifford, Dr Shane McCarthy, Dr Julius Mark, Mrs James Parker, and Dr Daniel Poling. The post office will not censor literature but will consult on mail prohibitions. A related note promotes Doubleday's Travel Guide to Russia due January 21 amid rising U S tourist interest.
