Gene Austin Story on Goodyear Playhouse sparks nostalgia
The Gene Austin Story on Goodyear Playhouse stars George Grizzard and uses pre recorded vocals by Gene Austin. It profiles a New Orleans born singer who rose fast, battled fame and a crashing stock market while radio killed the records business. The drama, directed by Herbert Hirschman, evokes Tin Pan Alley slang and 1920s mood with memorable songs.
