Harry F Grant veteran Vanderbilt Cup winner of 1909 and 1910 suffered severe burns when his Maxwell car ignited at Sheepshead Bay while racing at over 90 mph. He was rushed to Coney Island Hospital with burns from the waist down as flames shot from under the seat and forced him to continue for more than 150 yards to avoid a topple on the 27 foot bank.
