Milton firms C A Godcharles nail works and City Nail works resume operations with stable or partial time schedules. Lock Haven paper company resumes full time with no wage cuts.
The Westinghouse electric conspiracy jury failed to reach a verdict after 24 hours of deliberation and was discharged. Defendants Morris W. Mead W. J. Clark and M. H. Hamilton will face another trial.
New York money market quoted at 2 to 4 percent with bar silver at 74 cents. Exchange actual business $4.8244 to $4.86 for 60 day bills and demand. Posted rates $4.83 41614, commercial bills $4.81 4.82. Government bonds at 4.8344 4.8514 for 60 days and bid 4s coupon. New York on September 9 reports wheat futures with bid ranges for flour grades from 1.95 to 4.00 for various grades and mills, rye and cornmeal quotes, barley and Canada prices, and spot and option prices for wheat, corn, oats, hay, pork, butter, cheese, and eggs.
Buffalo reports current prices for grain and products including No 1 hard wheat at 71 cents, No 1 northern 68 14 cents, corn varieties from 40 to 45 cents, oats around 31 to 27 cents, barley state 68 to 69 cents, rye 49 cents, flour ranges from 1.75 to 4.40 per barrel, butter at 25 to 26 cents, cheese 9 to 10 cents, and eggs at 11 cents. In Indianapolis on September 5 crowds lined the parade route to honor Grand Army of the Republic veterans. Governor Mathews reviewed the procession as officials and distinguished guests filled the reviewing stand amid vivid displays of support. Officers elected September 6 include John J. B. Adams as commander in chief, I N Walker as senior vice commander, and J C Bigger as junior vice commander. Adams, age 51, known for Massachusetts service, is lauded as a leading G A R figure and has held multiple public roles.
Three murders unfold at Burlingham New York as Mrs. Paul Halliday is accused of killing her husband Paul Halliday and luring two women to their deaths. Bodies found buried under a barn haystack and a floor reveal multiple killings over four days. Evidence includes a garter strangling attempt and a burned house linked to Lizzie Halliday.
Falcon arrives in St. Joan's N F after Peary reports all well at Bowdoin Bay North Greenland on Aug 20. He records 80 dogs 20 tons of walrus meat and 11 deer at that time. Mrs Peary is expected to give birth late September making the first white child born this far north.
