Oil discoveryboosts land prices and wealth for farmers

A new oil bearing strata 34 feet thick was bored near a farm operated by J Parker and a second spring opened 28 feet below the surface. Licenses to bore for oil surged in value with offers reaching 20000 for a half interest in a 15 year lease on 100 acres. The Drake spring tract, once taxed and sold for a cow, could now fetch vast sums. The oil is medicinal and luminous, an effective lubricant that resists gumming.
