Horace Greeley denounces William Bigler and the anonymous tract Infidelity and Abolitionism, arguing the piece falsely blames Fremont supporters for disunion. He cites Southern secession, Brooks, and party leaders while defending Fremont and denouncing Democratic actions on Kansas and slavery.
General Lane denounces a Missouri Republican circular and recounts his journey to Kansas where he aided settlers amid reported massacres and brutal atrocities. He claims he did not recruit soldiers, but led local defense forces under urgent duty to protect settlers from incursions and violence.
A historical proclamation urging voters to remember the 1855 Missouri border invasion and the establishment of slavery in Kansas under territorial laws. Spencer presided at the Oct 1 business meeting where W. O. Blodget was named secretary and officers were elected including E. Jagger and James Dennison. A six vice presidents proposal was adopted with a named list. The Institute adjourned to Oct 3 and to meet again in Warren in April.

Mr Henry Turner of Dover Maine suffered with severe Erysipelas and purple blotches across his body. After trying many remedies he used Holloway’s Ointment and Pills and was quickly cured with greatly improved health. The case has caused a sensation in Maine.
Gen Nye recounts a tale with South Carolina friends and Col Fremont at a gathering. A chivalry member warned that if Fremont won, they would secede. Fremont responded by saying he hoped they would arrange to leave the state behind them.
The Missouri Democrat reports that armed Southern companies continue entering Kansas despite Gov. Geary's pledge to repel intruders. On Thursday the steamer Die Vernon from New Orleans landed a company of "Mississippi boys" commanded by Captain Beckett at the warf, and they moved straight to Kansas.
