British troops seize Poekapelie and push nearly two miles northwest in Flanders in Haig report. Paris says French capture St Jean De Mangeiare and Veldhoek with numerous blockhouses, advancing 1.14 miles to Hout Holst Wood outskirts on a front over 11 miles.
British and French troops launch synchronized assaults along the Ypres front. French forces advance with British left wing near Dixmude, taking villages and prisoners as Haig pushes toward Passchendaele. Ground conditions hamper operations but gains are reported on a front over a mile and a half.
Amsterdam Oct 10 The Netherland Steamship Co announces it has agreed to American conditions for bunkering facilities. It states that ships on each voyage between Java and the United States will make a return trip carrying exclusively American and partly Canadian cargo.
Brigadier General Hiram Chittenden U S A retired died in Seattle after a brief illness. He was 59 years old.
New York reports two Chinese American laundrymen Chin Wah and Ing Sinn of the Bronx seek training to join forces fighting Kaiser Wilhelm. They plotted to tie firecrackers to his coat tails and ignite them to provoke a reaction, but local authorities delayed their enlistment to resolve business matters.
