Rev. Edward Eggleston recounts a Central Illinois tale from a townsman known as Jim about Lincoln attending a Five Points Sunday School event. Jim’s story describes Lincoln listening to children sing, reading their poetry with deep emotion, and tears filling his eyes as he was moved by the moment.

In the Washington dispatch, cabinet members face renewed pressure to pledge loyalty. Seward resists and hints at retirement, preferring Grant. Schofield also backs Grant over Seymour, while Sivarts expresses mild regard for the current president. Mentions McCulloch and Welles as well.
The Union notes Hendricks, a Democratic candidate for Indiana governor, felt highly honored after his Mount Vernon visit. It quotes Union of Mount Vernon alleging thirteen Kentucky marchers in his procession were guerrillas in the war and many others served in the Rebel regular army.
