Abandoned Test Well Near Union City

The Union City Gas and Oil Company dismantled the test well three miles west of town after reaching about 2700 feet. Driller Dave Dailey said no gas or oil indications were found and further operations were a waste of time and money.

Fatal Accident Claims Dane Resident Jensen

Last Sunday afternoon weigh Jensen a Dane living at Fourth and Water streets shot himself in the head with a revolver and died almost immediately. His wife was present and it is thought he believed the weapon unloaded. Dr Peirce deemed no Coroner's inquest necessary. Jensen, about 27, had only recently arrived in the country and worked as a painter for Andrew Hanson.

New Comedy at AT Library Hall Promotes Local Theater

Thanksgiving service planned for Youngsville churches

Youngsville citizens will gather at the Free Methodist Church on Thursday at 7 30 pm for a Union Thanksgiving service with Rev. J P Barns delivering the sermon. Mary Greene and Amelia Woodard are noted as ill with recoveries reported.

Boom for President timber boom eyed after tract sale

The Grandin Company of Tidioute plans large scale timber operations on the Er E Clapp tract purchased from its owners. About 100 million feet of timber lie on the land with riverside rail ties cut this winter and major work to begin soon. A 40 000 feet per day sawmill will be built near Hemlock Creek mouth and an iron railroad bridge is planned between President and Eagle Rock. Meanwhile Capt L M Clark’s body arrived from New York and will be buried Friday after services at his home led by Rev J W Smith.

Rabbit Killing Season Open From November to December

The open season for killing rabbits runs November 1 through December 15, inclusive. Land occupants may kill rabbits on their own land at any time to protect crops.

Egg Prices Hit Highest Level In Years

In Conhenatville the price for a dozen eggs stands at 26 cents, the highest in years. Warren shoppers paid 35 cents per dozen at the street market, sparking protests that three cent eggs in an egg country amount to robbery.

Harriet Maxwell Converse known as Chief to the Six Nations tribes died in New York on November 18. She was revered as Priestess Mother and Chief and reputedly the only woman to receive the Snipe Totem, the highest tribal coat of arms.
