Wirz Hanged for War Crimes at Old Capitol
Washington November 10 1865 Capt Henry Wirz was hanged between 10 and 11 am after a military trial found him guilty of conspiring with Jeff Davis and other rebels to mistreat Union prisoners of war. President Andrew Johnson approved the sentence and Wirz met death with calm composure, declaring he could die like a man.

Execution Relived by Shouts After Convict Falls
Witnesses unable to view the scene reacted with cries of disapproval. The convict convulsed in his legs after the drop but the agony subsided quickly. He hung for about 15 minutes before being cut down and carried to the prison. A coffin was prepared and Father Boyle to handle interment. The fall caused a broken neck and the proceedings lasted roughly 45 minutes.

Beecher’s Peekskill Farm A Model Of Fruit Growing And Improvement
The 40 acre Peekskill farm in Westchester County New York sits two miles from the railroad with a southern view of the Hudson and surrounding mountains. Since purchase a few years ago Mr Beecher has planted 2500 fruit trees and grape vines and raised 700 to 800 barrels of onions among them.
